NFL Mock Draft Version 3.0 (Rd2)

Stl- Maurikce Pouncey, C, Florida
Great value in the second round for the Rams as Pouncey can play both center and Guard
and combined with Jason Smith/Jason Brown makes a solid offensive base for the Rams
to build around.
Det- Donovan Warren, CB, Michigan
While Detroit has taken strides to improve on offense, their secondary corner position has been greatly ignored. Warren injects youth into an underachieving and aging weakness for the Lions.
TB- Navorro Bowman, OLB, Penn State
Bowman is the perfect Tampa 2 linebacker and while Quincy Black did an admirable job
filling in for the once great Derrick Brooks, Bowman can be the next Brooks if he
develops to his full potential.
KC- Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama
A 3-4 defense is only as good as its nose tackle, and as you could see by their performance last season Ron Edwards is not the answer. MT Cody brings massive size and surprising quickness to a defense desperately searching for an anchor.
Was- Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida
Washington is switching to a 3-4 this upcoming season and while London Fletcher-Baker is solidified at one MLB spot, HB Blades lacks the instincts and intangibles to make up for his diminutive size like Fletcher-Baker does.
Cle- Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma
Brady Quinn loves his receiving tight ends (John Carlson, Kellen Winslow) and if Mike Holmgren is serious about giving Quinn 32 starts, he needs to give him the tools to succeed as well. Gresham brings soft hands and great size to an underperforming offense.
Oak- Everson Griffin, DE, USC
Griffin makes up for passing on a rush end in the first round as Richard Seymour and
Greg Ellis won’t last forever.
Sea- Taylor Mays, S, USC
Born and raised in Seattle while also being coached his entire career by Pete Carroll makes this pick a fit. Not to mention Seattle’s immediate need at SS (Deion Grant is good…but upgradable).
TB(Chi)- Golden Tate, WR
A franchise QB (Josh Freeman) requires weapons around him to improve. Unfortunately for Freeman, Michael Clayton and Maurice Stovall are nothing more than big bodies and solid run blockers. Tate will bring an element of explosiveness and consistency to an inconsistent offense.
Buf- Selvish Capers, OT
No matter who the QB is for Buffalo (Jimmy C, Trent Edwards, or other wards), they will need somebody to protect their backside. While Capers is not worthy of an immediate start, he is a potential upgrade over Jonathan Scott who was not even good enough to make it in Detroit.
Mia- Jon Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech
Ronnie Brown just suffered his second major knee injury, is a free agent, and the wheels will eventually fall off of Ricky Williams. Dwyer is a versatile big back with good feet and strong potential to be the wildcat/power back that the Tuna is searching for.
NE (Jax)- Aaron Hernandez, TE,Florida
Ben Watson was a let down during his tenure in New England and will most likely not be resigned. Hernandez is closer to being a big reciever than a blocking TE, which is exactly what the Patriots spread offense calls for.
Den- Lamaar Houston, DT/DE, Texas
Lamaar is a strong penetrating 3-4 DE which is a need for the Broncos as Kenny Peterson is old enough that he played football with Coach Josh McDaniels.
NYG- Sean Lee, ILB, Penn State
The Giants require a replacement for the recently released Antonio Pierce, Lee be an strong replacement for Pierce while also allowing for improved pass coverage and a more versatile linebacking core alongside Michael Boley and the high upside Clint Sintim.
NE (Ten)- Alex Carrington, DE, Arkansas State
Carrington will be a nice replacement for an aging Ty Warren or Jarvis Green.
Car- Dezmon Briscoe, WR, Kansas
Briscoe will be a great compliment to Steve Smith as his blend of size (6’2) speed (potential 4.4 40) and durability (did not miss a start in 3 years) will help solidify the #2 receiver position in Carolina.
SF- Jahvid Best, RB, Cal
Frank Gore is a franchise running back there is no doubt about that, but constant wear and tear are beginning to show as Gore seems to miss games each season. Also, Best (a local product) will bring a new explosive element to an already high potential offensive.
KC (Atl)- Rob Gronkowski, TE, Arizona
Leonard Pope/Sean Ryan is not the answer, and unfortunately for Matt Cassell, his offensive line does not always protect him enough for Dwayne Bowe to get open, Gronkowski can help alleviate the pressure on Cassell and open up the Chiefs offense.
Hou- Perrish Cox, CB, Oklahoma State
If Dunta Robinson cannot be brought back at a discount rate (as he is not going to be
franchised) the Texans will need a franchise corner to compliment their incredible
offense.
Pit- Chris Cook, CB, Virginia
If last season showed the Steelers anything it was that their corners cannot cause
Turnovers, Cook will help change this.
Cin- Anthony McCoy, TE, USC
Spiller in round 1 helps open up the offense, however as Carson Palmer’s arm strength seems to be decreasing with constant elbow injuries, an underneath target who can compensate for his mistakes could help stabilize the Bengal’s offense
NE- Dexter McCluster, RB, Ole Miss
The Patriots can always use more explosion in their offense, especially from their running game. McCluster could be the new and improved Kevin Faulk.
GB- Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida St
Charles Woodson is 33 years old and will eventually drop off in play and Tramon Williams needs a partner in crime in the secondary for the upcoming seasons.
Phi- Nate Allen, S, South Florida
Dawkins is not easily replicable, but Nate Allen and his incredible upside will give it a pretty good shot.
Bal- Corey Wooton, DE, Northwestern
Trevor Price, Dwan Edwards, and Justin Bannan are all on the wrong side of 30 and Wooton has a nonstop motor just like the Ravens love.
Ari- Tony Washington, OT, Abilene Christian
Even if Leinart is not the answer at QB, their eventual solution will need protection in order to stay upright and Mike Gandy is unlikely to be brought back. While not the most polished blocker, Washington has a high upside and has quick feet allowing him to be a strong fit in Arizona’s pass happy offense.
Dal- Mardy Gilyard, WR, Cincinatti
While there is no solution to the Roy Williams contract debacle, Gilyard will be a nice replacement for an aging Patrick Creighton in the slot and as a returner.
SD- Damian Williams, WR, USC
While the chargers do not need another receiver, they are a team without an incredible
glaring need (as Tomlinson has been replaced with Ryan Matthews). Williams will allow
the chargers an underneath receiving presence outside of Antonio Gates, and negotiating
power in Malcolm Floyd’s contract.
NYJ- Demaryius Thomas, WR, Georgia Tech
Thomas is a physical freak of nature who was reportedly running sub 4.4 40 yard dashes
before he fractured his foot training for the combine. Had he been in an offense which
had a semblance of a passing game who knows where Thomas would have gone.
unfortunately for the Jets, Thomas will need time to learn more routs but his physical
talents are undeniable.
Min- Cam Thomas, DT, UNC
The Williams wall will only last so long (especially since Pat Williams just announced he
Will reture once his contract expires at the end of the season) and Cam Thomas (6’4”,
331lbs) is an ideal fill in for Pat.
Ind- Eldwin Veldheer, OT, Hillsdale
Tony Ugoh does not seem to be the answer at LT and Charlie Johnson may be a one year flash in the pan. Veldheer offers long term upside and more run blocking potential then either of the current Colt OT’s.
NO- Tyson Alaulau, DT/DE, Cal
Remi Ayodel was an adequate starter for the champion Saints this past season, but Alaulau is an upgrade and the Saints should be doing everything they can to maximize the production and potential of franchise DT Sedrick Ellis.
